The last two weeks have seen a clear message sent to the system;
Underperformance of the kind seen in around 20 trusts nationally cannot become “normalised” or tolerated when the A&E performance is consistently below 85 per cent. If the centre doesn’t receive the right level of assurance action must be taken. [Read more]

It has been an amazing World Athletics Championships. We pose the question, what can the NHS learn from UK Sport on how it provides and supports talented people? And, using the example given by UK Sport, how can the NHS move from  and emphasis on understanding and investigating failure that has already occurred, to focusing on being able to predict potential failure and take steps to avoid it happening.

It's been an indubitably interesting week for those involved with senior managers in the NHS. Jeremy Hunt claimed that we need more clinicians, and suggested that the general management introduced in the 1980s was a mistake. Simon Stevens recently voiced the need for 'great leaders', both clinical and non-clinical.

In this blog, Carol shares about what she is looking forward to at this week's conference.
